A few favorites from IMAGES - Lowell Quilt Festival 2013 (1 of 3)

On Friday, on our way to Nashua for some shopping, my daughter Kaela and I stopped in to the Lowell Quilt Festival - an easy drive from our home and a yearly treat!

Here are a few of my favorite quilts from this year's IMAGES show - none of them ribbon winners, but wonderful to my eye:
A to Z - Quiet Valley Quilters Guild, Bennington, VT, pieced and quilted by Mary Hawes Kohler.
Isn't it just so detailed, charming, and whimsical?

I've been "collecting" house blocks on Pinterest!

Here's another hand quilted piece that really caught my eye:

Circle of Heaven, by G. Wong, Wellesley, MA, hand appliqued and quilted.

I liked this wall hanging a lot, and it reminded me of how happy I felt seeing the Boston skyline on our drive home from the airport when we got back from Japan. Not a huge metropolis - just Boston, our home city of 13 years.

Here's one striking study of color:

Calming Influence, by Patricia Washburn, Taunton, MA, machine pieced and quilted

And this one was just plain fun - with a color palette I loved:

Blobby, by Colleen Zeitz, Providence, RI, machine appliqued and quilted, based on a figure from a drawing by Kandinsky.

More tomorrow - when it's not after midnight!
